The Nahanni is on many peoples Dream Canoe Trip list.
Before you go …to get the inspiration, there are a few books you should read
The #1 book is RM PATTERSONS The Dangerous River
This is the story of Pattersons adventures travelling in the Nahanni Valley in the 1927.At that time a handful of adventurers travelled up the Nahanni looking for Adventures and gold.
Patterson found gold for us in the form of this book published in 1954.
This is a hard cover 1954 first edition I am putting into the auction along with two other books.
#2 Nahanni Trailhead by Joanne Ronan Moore 1980 softcover
Nahanni travellers today make it a must stop to visit Moores Cabin and Hotsprings.
In May of 1978 a young couple Joanne Ronan and John Moore set off from Ottawa to drive to Watson Lake ,Yukon to begin a year of living on the Nahanni River. John was a 1970s Black Feather guide enthralled with the early Nahanni stories. Somehow he convinced Joanne to marry him and spend their first year together building a cabin and living on the Nahanni.
Its a great story
#3 Nahanni Portfolio by Pat and Rosemarie Keough 1987
This is a beautiful portfolio book featuring a great collection of historic and modern photos. In 1987 the Keoughs paddled the upper Nahanni with a Black Feather group then set out on their own to reach some of the most remote regions of the national park.It is well written and captures the spirit of the park at that time very well .
