“Forgotten Memories of the Ottawa Valley” House Concert
Forgotten Memories of the Ottawa Valley is a unique folk music show that is a collection of songs about the history and heritage of the Ottawa Valley. The 2 hour, 2 set show is offered in a house concert format, where a very entertaining afternoon or evening is provided in your yard, your house, your cottage or any other location that is warm and dry. The show is performed as a solo act, but there may be options for accompaniment depending on the date.
The collection of songs has been arranged to provide a musical tour of the Ottawa Valley (see the map below), with introductory narratives (story telling) providing informative insights to the days and the ways of the past. The songs reflect the early years of river travels, immigration, logging, farming, rural/frontier life, and the effects of later industrialization (see song list below). These topics are relevant to areas beyond the Ottawa Valley because the early peoples everywhere in what became Canada would have experienced similar challenges with settlement, travel, and life. Effort has been put into researching the topics of the songs and the repertoire continues to grow as new stories are put to song. This “folklore” style of entertainment is an appealing for people with an interest in history and heritage. Every story is true.
Some of the songs of the show have been professionally recorded (The River, 2019) and others are in the process of being recorded (to be released in 2023). This show, and Marc’s historical songwriting, was recognized in a Certificate of Congratulation from MPP John Yakabuski. Reviews and feedback from show have been, so you can rest assured that hosting this show at your location would be a great experience for everyone.

Who is Marc Audet? Marc is a Canadian folk music singer/songwriter from the Ottawa Valley (Ontario) with a keen interest in history, a love of music and a particular love of songwriting, performing, and story telling. His interest in local history originated from discovering and exploring the ruins of old settlements and features left along the rivers and in the forests of the Ottawa Valley. Early years working in the forestry and mining/exploration industries and an ongoing lifestyle experiencing the wilderness by foot or paddle add to the backdrop of Marc’s creative spirit. Historical songwriting was a natural outcome of Marc’s fascination with historical sites and his love of songwriting and performing. His shows blend great songwriting and storytelling, creating a captivating and immersive experience for listeners. His unassuming stage presence projects a serene and introspective setting, much like the territory that he sings about. There is an authenticity in his music that draws listeners in, connecting with truth in music. Marc has something to say, musically.
