WELCOME TO THE 15TH ANNUAL COMMUNITY LIVING - CENTRAL HURON GOLF CLASSIC SILENT AUCTION

Who we are

Community Living-Central Huron has a story similar to other Community Living Agencies. A grass roots group started to meet in 1958 because they did not want to send their children with developmental disabilities to live in institutions. They gathered together to advocate for their children’s education and a place in the community. In 1959, they formed the Goderich and District Association for Retarded Children, which is now known as Community Living-Central Huron. Families from Clinton joined the Agency in 1962.

How we are raising money

For the past 12 years, Community Living-Central Huron teamed up with the Goderich Sunset Golf Club to offer a golf tournament. Over two days, participants are offered 18 holes of practice and tournament play with hole in one competitions, dinner, live and silent auctions. This year due to the COVID-19 virus, we have moved the auction online to ensure the safety of everyone involved. The 15th annual Golf Classic will take place on August 27, 2021. The 2020 event was cancelled due to the pandemic. In 2019, there were 81 golfers who participated in the event.

Where are the funds going

The proceeds from the first (2007) and second tournaments were put towards the purchase of a wheelchair van for the Agency. In 2008, the funds raised were used to renovate one of Community Living-Central Huron’s residential locations to make it fully accessible. The 4th Annual Goderich & District Golf Classic provided funds to make extensive renovations to the Agency’s accessible washrooms. Proceeds from the 5th and 6th Annual Tournament were part of a two year commitment to purchase a wheelchair accessible van. The 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th Annual Goderich & District Golf Classic provided funds to purchase another van and parking lot renovations. An accessible mobility device was purchased with proceeds from the 11th Annual Golf Tournament. The 14th Annual Golf Tournament was cancelled due to Covid-19. A donation to the Huron Respite Network is made annually to allow individuals to participate in camps and respite supports. $308,542 has been raised in 13 years.

The Agency is very grateful to the many dedicated supporters of this event. We couldn’t do it without you!
